Come and find out about everyday things you can do

Many wonderful local vendors, local businesses, and creative individuals will have their wares on display for sale.  Live acoustic music and children’s fun activities will keep the action going. Over 30 free door prizes will be handed out valued between $25 & $100.

 

Booths with information that people can use in their daily lives to live cleaner and greener, including methods to conserve water, reduce pollution, lower energy consumption, and use clean energy resources. Learn how to minimize all types of waste, recycle more effectively, reduce reliance on single-use plastics, gain information on their associated health impacts, and choose sustainable options. There will be 3 different demonstrations each hour on proper food storage techniques.

​To assist everyone in gaining new earth-friendly habits, Sustainable Southbury will have a Recycling Collection Table where you can bring hard-to-recycle items. Items being recycled for you include:​​

​

  • CLOTHING - Gently used

  • HOUSEWARES - pots, pans, utensils, etc.

  • DVDs, CDs, VHS, Audio Cassettes - FUNCTIONAL

  • SPORTS SUPPLIES - balls, mitts, rackets, frisbees…

  • EYEGLASSES and HEARING AIDS

  • PLASTIC BAGS and FILM WRAP - store bags, ziplock, drycleaning bags…

  • CORKS - MUST BE CORK  (NO Plastic)

  • PRESCRIPTION PILL CONTAINERS - CLEAN - #5 PLASTIC 

  • BREAD TAGS

Region 15 is participating in an Arts Contest on "What Do The 7 Rs Mean To You?" Six winners will be announced at Noon and receive prizes from CT businesses.  Students have the freedom to creatively answer the question, “What do the 7 Rs Mean to you?”  Students are currently working on their poems, songs, videos, essays, art, posters, or sculptures.  Deadline for submissions is May 23. Interested students grades 1-8 should contact their Media Teachers to participate and grades 9-12 should contact their AP Science teacher.
