Are you a student interested in environmental action, digital marketing, and social media? Sustainable Southbury’s new Digital Marketing & Social Media Internship offers a flexible, remote opportunity to gain real-world experience while helping inspire positive changes in our community. Develop skills in graphic design, video production, writing, and social media while building your portfolio, strengthening your college applications, and earning community service hours or potential course credit. The commitment is just 3–5 hours per week.

Sustainable Southbury at STEM-A-Palooza!
Join Sustainable Southbury at Region 15’s free STEM-A-Palooza on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 10 am to 3 pm at Pomperaug High School in Southbury. Explore how energy-efficient homes can reduce energy needs while making the most of solar power. Explore energy efficiency by testing how capturing solar radiation can help create a home that is both cost-effective and comfortable, then experiment with small solar panels to discover how sunlight, shading, panel angle, and electrical connections affect power production. See our working balcony solar demonstration, featuring a solar panel, microinverter, battery storage, and displays showing the system in operation - technology expected to become legal in Connecticut soon. Discover How Zero Energy Homes Are Built!
Join Homes That Fit and Sustainable Southbury for a free Open Wall Open House on Saturday, October 10, in Southbury. This 60-minute workshop offers a behind-the-scenes look at a home under construction, including super-insulated walls, high-performance windows, energy-efficient heating and cooling, heat-recovery ventilation, and solar energy integration. Explore the unique panelized straw construction by Rare Forms and see how this innovative building system creates highly energy-efficient, comfortable, and durable homes. Learn how thoughtful building practices can create homes that are more comfortable, healthy, durable, and energy-efficient. Eye-opening Documentary
Join us for a FREE screening of “The Plastic Detox”, an eye-opening new documentary that explains what microplastics and their chemicals are doing to our health. Chemicals found in plastics have been associated with cancer, nervous system damage, hormone disruption, obesity, and fertility issues. This documentary follows the research of Dr. Swan and other experts in the field, covering the impact on human development. The film features six couples with unexplained infertility who embark on a bold plastic detox of their homes; it changes their lives, health, and families forever. The film will be followed by a discussion on how to reduce your plastic exposure and take matters into our own hands.

Green Expo 2027!
Mark your calendar for Saturday, May 22, 2027, at Pomperaug Elementary School, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Join us for a fun, family-friendly day featuring local exhibitors and merchants selling your favorite sustainable items, hands-on activities, sustainability displays, a recycling drive, and practical ways to live greener. This year’s student contest, “Trash or Treasure? What Belongs in the Bin?”, challenges students to explore reuse, recycling, versus what belongs in the trash. Come celebrate the creativity of our student participants at the awards ceremony, where winners will choose from a selection of prizes! Admission is free.

EyeRecycle is a redemption center. EyeRecycle pays the full 10 cents per item. They take anything with a CT refund label, not just what the store sells. Plus, they make sure the redeemable items are recycled correctly. We also recycle empty inkject cartridges.
