Start Saving For Our Next Redeemable Bottles and Cans Event

1st Sunday of Every Month

12 - 3 pm

800 Main Street South, Southbury, CT

EyeRecycle pays the full 10 cents per item starting January 1, 2024, even if the bottle/can is marked “CT 5 Cent REFUND”.

Sustainable Southbury will begin collecting used inkjet printer cartridges for recycling at our bottle and can redemption events.  Bring your used empty cartridges to the event and drop them off in our collection box.  Sustainable Southbury will ship them to a cartridge recycling center and may receive a small donation from the recycler, which will help Sustainable Southbury continue its community work.

You can also purchase our popular food scrap recycling kit at these events while supplies last.

Events are held on the first Sunday of the month.  Anyone can bring cans and bottles, including those living outside of Southbury.  Over 112,000 bottles and cans have been collected so far over 8 events!

EyeRecycle is a redemption center.  They take anything with a 10-cent refund label, not just what the store sells.  Plus, they make sure the redeemable items are recycled correctly.

A full EyeRecycle bag of 750ml bottles earns $20 cash back, and there’s no waiting in line to put the containers through a machine. Not sure if it is redeemable? Look near the barcode or recycle symbol to find the label that says “CT 5 Cent REFUND” (or for 2024 10 cent).

We have an express lane for people who have already bagged their redeemable bottles and cans in an EyeRecycle bag.  You simply drop off your bag and get paid.  EyeRecycle bags can be purchased at the event for .50 cents/bag, at the EyeRecycle website, or at events Sustainable Southbury participates in.

If you don’t have an EyeRecycle bag, our volunteers will transfer your bottles into an EyeRecycle bag with a fill line for counting.  Please sort plastic bottles by size - those smaller than 1 liter, 1 liter, and 2 liter bottles each in a separate bag.  Redeemable cans can be in the same bag as plastic bottles that are smaller than 1 liter. All glass bottles must be in a cardboard container to prevent breakage in the bags. Place redeemable glass bottles (no wine or liquor bottles) in a small cardboard box or a 6, 12, 18, or 24-pack cardboard carrier - we cannot accept loose glass bottles.

Thank you for helping our environment and keeping our community clean!
