Electricity Charges

Your Eversource Electric Bill

The electricity bill from Eversource is broken into 4 categories:

  • Supply - the charge for electrical generation from their third-party suppliers.

  • Transmission - the cost of building, maintaining, and operating the regional transmission system - these charges are federally regulated.

  • Local Delivery - the cost to operate and maintain the local system of poles and wires and provide customer service.  The local delivery charges on your energy bill are driven by how much energy you use and can vary from month to month.

  • Public Benefits  - includes costs mandated by the state and federal government for financial assistance and energy efficiency programs, purchasing renewable and carbon-free electricity, and funding solar and electric vehicle incentives to help make it easier to take advantage of clean energy options.

The Connecticut Supplier Rate Board

The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) manages the Connecticut Supplier Rate Board which helps you find alternative providers that may help you reduce your supply charges.  This tool allows Connecticut residents to compare supply rates from Eversource and United Illuminating (UI) with rates from licensed electric suppliers and registered aggregators.

Standard Service rates are based on the market price for electricity and change on January 1st and July 1st. They remain fixed for six months.

The rate comparison tool allows you to compare rates using several filters and parameters.
